The National Assembly of Pakistan has unanimously passed a private member bill sponsored by Dr. Attiya Inayatullah the Reproductive Health care and Rights Bill, 2013. One of the concerns underlying passage of the bill was the high rate of mortality associated with childbirth. [Daily Mail]
It is not clear from the wording of the law whether or not it can be used to justify suppression of freedom of conscience and religion among health care workers. The impact of the statute may become more apparent over time, especially once the regulations authorized by the law are promulgated.
