{"id":9078,"date":"2019-03-25T15:25:41","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T22:25:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=9078"},"modified":"2019-04-15T15:32:19","modified_gmt":"2019-04-15T22:32:19","slug":"bolivian-doctor-to-be-prosecuted-for-refusing-to-perform-an-abortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=9078","title":{"rendered":"Bolivian doctor to be prosecuted for refusing to perform an abortion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>LifeSite News<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"author\">Jeanne Smits<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> LA PAZ, Bolivia, March 25, 2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/\">LifeSiteNews<\/a>)  \u2014 A Bolivian doctor has been suspended by that country\u2019s National  Health Fund (Caja Nacional de Salud) for having refused to perform an  abortion on a woman pregnant with an anencephalic child. \u201cN.M.,\u201d as he  is known, will also be prosecuted before an administrative court,  together with the former director of the Jaime Mendoza Workers\u2019 Hospital  in Sucre, where the refusal took place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abortion is illegal in Bolivia except in cases  of rape, incest, danger to the mother\u2019s health, or a lethal malformation  of the unborn child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was this last case that was invoked by a  woman from Cochabamba in February of last year after medical  examinations revealed that her baby had a serious congenital  malformation. She was five months pregnant. . .
