{"id":8468,"date":"2018-04-11T14:48:12","date_gmt":"2018-04-11T21:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=8468"},"modified":"2018-07-03T14:51:28","modified_gmt":"2018-07-03T21:51:28","slug":"obstetricians-and-gynaecologists-to-hold-meeting-on-abortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=8468","title":{"rendered":"Obstetricians and Gynaecologists to hold meeting on abortion"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Doctors to discuss proposed abortion legislation but opposing views likely to surface<\/h2>\n<p><em><strong>The Irish Times<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"author\">Marie O&#8217;Halloran<\/p>\n<p>The Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists will hold an extraordinary general meeting on Friday to discuss the Government&#8217;s proposed abortion legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Divergence of views on abortion proposals is expected to arise but chairman of the institute Dr <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/topics\/topics-7.1213540?article=true&amp;tag_person=Peter+Boylan\"> Peter Boylan<\/a> rejected a claim made by retired obstetrician Dr Eamon McGuinness that there was &#8220;possibly a little dispute&#8221; on the executive about the decision to support repeal of the Eighth Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Boylan said 19 of the executive&#8217;s approximately 25 members attended the executive meeting at which the decision was made to support repeal of the Eighth Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everybody voted in favour of the institute being in favour of repeal.
