{"id":7876,"date":"2017-01-04T14:24:37","date_gmt":"2017-01-04T22:24:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=7876"},"modified":"2017-11-06T14:27:27","modified_gmt":"2017-11-06T22:27:27","slug":"freedom-of-conscience-for-healthcare-professionals-upheld-in-illinois-trampled-in-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=7876","title":{"rendered":"Freedom of Conscience for Healthcare Professionals Upheld in Illinois, Trampled in California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Alliance Defending Freedom Blog<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"author\">Sarah Kramer<\/p>\n<p>In a dazzling display of government overreach, the states of Illinois and California have demanded that pro-life healthcare professionals promote abortion \u2013 the very thing they have dedicated their careers to preventing.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, an Illinois state court <a href=\"http:\/\/adflegal.org\/detailspages\/press-release-details\/pregnancy-care-center-of-rockford-wins-injunction-temporarily-halts-illinois-abortion-referral-mandate\"> acknowledged this problem<\/a> when it ruled that pro-life healthcare professionals and pregnancy centers in Illinois cannot be <a href=\"http:\/\/adflegal.org\/detailspages\/press-release-details\/will-illinois-health-providers-be-forced-to-promote-abortion\"> forced to refer for abortions<\/a> or to tell pregnant women that abortion has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/legislation\/fulltext.asp?DocName=&amp;SessionId=88&amp;GA=99&amp;DocTypeId=SB&amp;DocNum=1564&amp;GAID=13&amp;LegID=&amp;SpecSess=&amp;Session=\" target=\"\"> &#8220;benefits&#8221; and is a &#8220;treatment option&#8221; for pregnancy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, healthcare professionals in California were denied the same freedom, when a federal court refused to rehear the case after <a href=\"http:\/\/adflegal.org\/detailspages\/press-release-details\/9th-circuit-upholds-california-law-forcing-pro-life-centers-to-promote-abortion\"> ruling to uphold a California law<\/a> last year. . . .For our clients, being forced to promote abortion is absolutely unthinkable. . .
