{"id":7532,"date":"2017-05-18T15:37:02","date_gmt":"2017-05-18T22:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=7532"},"modified":"2018-03-06T13:34:34","modified_gmt":"2018-03-06T21:34:34","slug":"take-us-out-of-assisted-dying-referral-process-doctors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=7532","title":{"rendered":"Take us out of assisted dying referral process: Doctors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Toronto Sun<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"author\">Kevin Connor<\/p>\n<p>TORONTO\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Many Ontario doctors and nurses working in palliative care say their objection to playing a role in assisted suicides may force them to leave the medical profession.<\/p>\n<p>That was the message about two dozen physicians, nurses and pharmacists brought to Queen&#8217;s Park on Thursday morning prior to the introduction of Tory MPP Jeff Yurek&#8217;s private member&#8217;s bill (Bill 129), which is designed to amend the Medical Assistance Dying Statute Law.<\/p>\n<p>The current assisted dying law permits health-care providers to refuse participation in helping patients die on the basis of their conscience or religious beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>What the health-care providers at Queen&#8217;s Park object to is the requirement that forces them to make referrals for critically-ill patients seeking an assisted death. . .
