{"id":7433,"date":"2017-06-24T08:52:52","date_gmt":"2017-06-24T15:52:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=7433"},"modified":"2018-03-06T17:23:36","modified_gmt":"2018-03-07T01:23:36","slug":"2-more-resignations-follow-st-boniface-hospital-decision-on-assisted-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=7433","title":{"rendered":"2 more resignations follow St. Boniface Hospital decision on assisted death"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>\u2018It would have been hypocritical for me to continue sitting&#8217; on St. Boniface subcommitte, says Dr. Ken Hahlweg<\/h2>\n<p><strong>CBC News<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"author\">Kelly Malone<\/p>\n<p>Two more resignation letters have been submitted after a controversial revote banned medically assisted dying at Winnipeg&#8217;s St. Boniface Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>On May 29, the St. Boniface Hospital board of directors, which provides governance for the hospital, narrowly approved a new policy that would allow medical assistance in dying, or MAID,\u00a0at the faith-based hospital under &#8220;rare circumstances.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Catholic Health Corp. of Manitoba, which owns St. Boniface Hospital&#8217;s facilities and appoints its board,\u00a0held a special board meeting the next day and added 10 new members, all of whom were part of the corporation, to the hospital&#8217;s board of directors, and then asked for a revote on June 12.<\/p>\n<p>That vote banned medically assisted death at the hospital. . .
