{"id":7127,"date":"2017-02-17T14:31:24","date_gmt":"2017-02-17T22:31:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=7127"},"modified":"2017-02-22T14:38:57","modified_gmt":"2017-02-22T22:38:57","slug":"pioneering-islamic-scholar-defender-of-women-coming-to-fresno-islam-christianity-and-judaism-share-the-same-genome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=7127","title":{"rendered":"Pioneering Islamic scholar, defender of women coming to Fresno: \u2018Islam, Christianity and Judaism share the same genome\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>The Fresno Bee<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"author\">Carmen George<\/p>\n<p>An Islamic scholar who served as a consultant to the U.S. Department of Defense regarding Middle Eastern affairs and who helped draft Iraq\u2019s constitution is this year\u2019s Fresno Interfaith Scholar Weekend speaker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith what is going on in the world, we immediately decided it was an Islamic scholar that we needed \u2013 a great Islamic mind to share with us,\u201d Jim Grant, chairman of the <a title=\"http:\/\/interfaithscholar.org\/\" href=\"http:\/\/interfaithscholar.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><u><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Fresno Interfaith Scholar Weekend<\/span><\/u><\/a> Committee and director of the Social Justice Ministry for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fresno, said about this year\u2019s speaker, <a title=\"http:\/\/religious.gmu.edu\/people\/asachedi\" href=\"http:\/\/religious.gmu.edu\/people\/asachedi\" target=\"_blank\"><u><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Abdulaziz Sachedina<\/span><\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sachedina is the <a title=\"http:\/\/www.iiit.org\/news\/george-mason-university-receives-gift-from-iiit-for-a-chair-in-islamic-studies\" href=\"http:\/\/www.iiit.org\/news\/george-mason-university-receives-gift-from-iiit-for-a-chair-in-islamic-studies\" target=\"_blank\">International Institute of Islamic Thought <\/a>chairman of Islamic Studies at <a title=\"https:\/\/www2.gmu.edu\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www2.gmu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">George Mason University<\/a> in Virginia. He will present a series of talks Friday through Feb. 26 at the <a title=\"http:\/\/icfresno.org\/\" href=\"http:\/\/icfresno.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno<\/a>, <a title=\"https:\/\/www.tbifresno.org\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tbifresno.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Temple Beth Israel<\/a>, <a title=\"https:\/\/wesleyfresno.org\/\" href=\"https:\/\/wesleyfresno.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wesley United Methodist Church<\/a> and <a title=\"http:\/\/www.fresnocitycollege.edu\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fresnocitycollege.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Fresno City College<\/a> centered around the theme, \u201cIslam, Human Rights, and Interfaith Dialogue.\u201d The annual event is sponsored by around 30 churches and organizations in the central San Joaquin Valley. . .
