The question arose because the Quebec College of Physicians was said to be &#8220;considering recommending&#8221; that Quebec physicians who provide euthanasia should declare the immediate cause of death to be an underlying medical condition, not the administration of the drugs that actually kill the patient.<a class=\"endnote\" href=\"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.orglaw\/commentary\/legal068-013.aspx\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">1<\/span><\/span><\/a> In fact, the Coll\u00e8ge des m\u00e9decins du Qu\u00e9bec and pharmacy and nursing regulators in the province had already made the decision. In August, the three regulators issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.orglaw\/commentary\/legal068-013.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Practice Guide<\/em><\/a> directing Quebec physicians to falsify death certificates in euthanasia cases.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The physician must write as the immediate cause of death the disease or morbid condition which justified [the medical aid in dying]\u00a0and caused the death.\u00a0It is not a question of the manner of death (cardiac arrest), but of the disease, accident or complication that led to the death. The term medical aid in dying should not appear on this document.<a class=\"endnote\" href=\"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.orgbackground\/procedures\/assist012.aspx#002.\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">2<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Lawyer Jean Pierre M\u00e9nard correctly observed that Quebec&#8217;s euthanasia law does not require physicians to report euthanasia on death certificates.<a class=\"endnote\" href=\"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.orgbackground\/procedures\/assist012.aspx#001.\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">1<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0 M.
