{"id":6059,"date":"2014-11-28T21:51:48","date_gmt":"2014-11-29T05:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=6059"},"modified":"2018-03-07T20:43:04","modified_gmt":"2018-03-08T04:43:04","slug":"6059","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=6059","title":{"rendered":"Physicians in Croatia refusing to provide abortion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"author\">Sean Murphy<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consciencelaws.org\/authors.aspx#Sean_Murphy\" target=\"_blank\">*<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is reported that, of 27 licensed public hospitals in Croatia, five have stopped\u00a0providing abortions because staff physicians are unwilling to perform them for reasons of conscience: Zagreb&#8217;s &#8220;Sveti duh&#8221; hospital, the general hospitals in Nasice, Vinkovci and Virovitica, and the general hospital in Knin.<\/p>\n<p>There have been unsubstantiated accusations\u00a0that some doctors in Zabok and Zagreb who claim a &#8220;conscientious objection&#8221; to performing abortions in public hospitals actually do provide them in illegally in private practice.\u00a0 The accusation\u00a0that some physicians who purport to be\u00a0conscientious objectors in public hospitals will\u00a0privately perform illegal abortions for payment has also <a href=\"http:\/\/analysis.rte.ie\/european\/2013\/06\/14\/conscientious-objection-a-controversial-issue-in-italys-abortion-regime\/\" target=\"_blank\">been made in Italy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Abortion activists insist that public hospitals should not employ physicians who object to abortion.
