{"id":5809,"date":"2014-05-27T23:18:34","date_gmt":"2014-05-28T06:18:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=5809"},"modified":"2018-03-08T16:52:57","modified_gmt":"2018-03-09T00:52:57","slug":"doctors-who-follow-church-teaching-told-to-emigrate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=5809","title":{"rendered":"Doctors who follow church teaching told to emigrate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Tablet<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"author\">Elena Curti<\/p>\n<p>Catholic doctors who follow church teaching on sexual ethics cannot work as gynaecologists in Britain, the Catholic Medical Association (CMA) conference was told.<\/p>\n<p>Charlie O&#8217;Donnell, a consultant in emergency and intensive care medicine, said the best advice he could give to an &#8220;orthodox&#8221; Catholic wishing to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology would be to &#8220;emigrate&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Dr O&#8217;Donnell told the conference at Ealing Abbey, west London, on 17 May that a Catholic training to be a consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology would soon find he or she had conscientious objections to such tasks as prescribing artificial contraceptives, giving unmarried couples fertility treatment or Viagra to gay couples. . .
