{"id":5744,"date":"2015-02-13T22:11:41","date_gmt":"2015-02-14T06:11:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=5744"},"modified":"2018-03-07T16:39:05","modified_gmt":"2018-03-08T00:39:05","slug":"saskatchewan-doctors-could-face-discipline-over-assisted-suicide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=5744","title":{"rendered":"Saskatchewan doctors could face discipline over assisted suicide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Global News<\/p>\n<p class=\"author\">Doug Lett<\/p>\n<p>SASKATOON \u2013 Doctors in the province who refuse to cooperate with physician-assisted suicide could face discipline according to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If a physician feels the directives are wrong, they will still, we would expect, they will still follow those directives,&#8221; said Bryan Salte, associate registrar of the college, &#8220;in spite of the fact they may not agree with them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While the college has not come up with policies around assisted suicide, it is circulating a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consciencelaws.org\/archive\/documents\/cpss\/2015-01-19-cpss-policy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"> draft policy on conscientious refusal<\/a>. It says while doctors can refuse to provide a legally provided service if it violates their freedom of conscience, they do have to make a referral to another health care provider who will do it.<\/p>\n<p>That means a doctor who believes suicide is wrong would still have to refer a patient to a doctor who would help them kill themselves. . .
