{"id":5032,"date":"2014-08-06T00:06:38","date_gmt":"2014-08-06T07:06:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=5032"},"modified":"2018-03-06T15:36:40","modified_gmt":"2018-03-06T23:36:40","slug":"input-sought-on-physicians-conscience-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=5032","title":{"rendered":"Input sought on physicians\u2019 conscience rights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Catholic Register<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"author\">Evan Boudreau<\/p>\n<p>TORONTO &#8211;\u00a0Silence from the public could cost Ontario\u2019s doctors the right to deny non-emergency procedures, prescriptions and referrals which they morally oppose, warns the Canadian Catholic Bioethics Institute.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"itemFullText\">\n<p>The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) is conducting a regularly scheduled review, as it does every five years, of its internal human-rights code and is being pressured to modify the sections regarding denying services based on conscience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of physicians feel strongly that they want these conscience rights protected,\u201d said Moira McQueen, executive director of the Canadian Catholic Bioethics Institute. \u201cWe have been encouraging people&#8230; to write to CPSO to say keep the policy the way it is so that physicians do not have to prescribe something that they think is morally unacceptable.
