{"id":2177,"date":"2013-01-28T23:15:27","date_gmt":"2013-01-28T23:15:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=2177"},"modified":"2013-01-28T23:15:38","modified_gmt":"2013-01-28T23:15:38","slug":"obama-freedom-to-worship-assaults-first-amendment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=2177","title":{"rendered":"Obama \u2018freedom to worship\u2019 assaults First Amendment"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>\u00a0Freedom of religion not just for private expression<\/h2>\n<p>28\u00a0January, 2013<em><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Times<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"author\">Jonathan Imbody<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consciencelaws.org\/authors.aspx#Jonathon_Imbody\">*<\/a><\/p>\n<p>President Obama marked Religious Freedom Day earlier this month by framing religious liberty as \u201cthe freedom to worship as we choose.\u201d If the president had not been restricting and attacking religious freedom so egregiously, he might merit a pass for using \u201cfreedom to worship\u201d as poor shorthand for religious liberty.<\/p>\n<p>The First Amendment of our Constitution actually reads, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/congress\/\">Congress<\/a>\u00a0shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.\u201d The constitutionally guaranteed free exercise of religion in America extends well beyond the freedom to worship. It includes the freedom to live out our conscientiously held beliefs. . .
