{"id":1531,"date":"2012-02-16T10:22:07","date_gmt":"2012-02-16T18:22:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=1531"},"modified":"2012-02-16T10:22:07","modified_gmt":"2012-02-16T18:22:07","slug":"committee-hearing-held-on-hhs-mandate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.consciencelaws.org\/?p=1531","title":{"rendered":"Committee hearing held on HHS mandate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Representatives of Judaism and Christianity appeared before the US House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to explain the reasons for their opposition to the Obama administration&#8217;s plan to force employers to provide insurance coverage for surgical sterilization, contraceptives, and embryocidal drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Some committee members protested because only two women appeared as witnesses.\u00a0 However, Dr. Laura Champion<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consciencelaws.org\/law\/commentary\/legal065-005-10.aspx\"> explained<\/a>, &#8220;This is not about politics, this is not about contraception, and this is not about depriving women of health care. Rather, this is personal. This is about my daily life as a physician, a Christian, and a Medical Services Director.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>John H. Garvey, President of the Catholic University of America,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consciencelaws.org\/law\/commentary\/legal065-005-06.aspx\"> said<\/a> that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consciencelaws.org\/law\/commentary\/legal065-002.aspx\">regulation<\/a> &#8220;makes hypocrites of us all, in the most important lessons we teach.&#8221;\u00a0 Dr. Allison Garrett of Oklahoma Christian University <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consciencelaws.org\/law\/commentary\/legal065-005-09.aspx\">told<\/a> the Committee that the alternative scheme proposed by the administration &#8220;does not present a workable solution. The Administration has not yet proposed anything new. . .
