Here\u2019s what it means"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>The Standard<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jacques Gallant<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>More Canadians will now have access to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/news\/medical-assistance-dying.html\">medical assistance in dying<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The federal government\u2019s Bill C-7, which revamps the country\u2019s assisted dying regime, received royal assent and became law, after the Senate signalled its agreement Wednesday with the House of Commons on the contents of the bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis law will respect the autonomy of Canadians while protecting the vulnerable,\u201d tweeted Justice Minister David Lametti following the Senate vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill\u2019s passage follows more than a year of bitter debate over medical assistance in dying (MAiD) in Canada.
