Zhang Heng, 30, was a talented producer for a variety show. In 2018, the pair <a href=\"https:\/\/m.weibo.cn\/search?containerid=231522type%3D1%26t%3D10%26q%3D%23%E9%83%91%E7%88%BD%E5%BC%A0%E6%81%92%E5%90%88%E7%85%A7%E5%85%AC%E5%BC%80%E6%81%8B%E6%83%85%23&amp;extparam=%23%E9%83%91%E7%88%BD%E5%BC%A0%E6%81%92%E5%90%88%E7%85%A7%E5%85%AC%E5%BC%80%E6%81%8B%E6%83%85%23&amp;luicode=10000011&amp;lfid=231522type%3D1%26t%3D10%26q%3D%23%E9%83%91%E7%88%BD%E5%BC%A0%E6%81%92%E5%90%88%E7%85%A7%E5%85%AC%E5%BC%80%E6%81%8B%E6%83%85%23&amp;featurecode=1000&amp;sudaref=www.google.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">went public<\/a> with a set of couple selfies, and often appeared affectionately in the spotlight afterward &#8212; even co-starring in a popular reality series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So fans were shocked when Zhang took to China&#8217;s Twitter-like platform Weibo earlier this month to <a href=\"https:\/\/weibo.com\/1852274825\/JDJF6EgBY?type=comment#_rnd1611132467614\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claim<\/a> he has been stranded in the United States for more than a year, left alone to &#8220;take care of and protect two young and innocent lives.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The couple was believed to have split while two surrogate mothers they hired were pregnant with their kids, with Zheng accused of abandoning the babies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Chinese media outlet subsequently publicized alleged photos of the children&#8217;s birth certificates, which showed they were born in December 2019 and January 2020 in the US.
